For the umpteenth time, the Nigeria customs Service has alerted the unsuspecting Nigerians to be wary of fake recruitment agencies purported to be owned and operated by the Nigerian Custom Service .It therefore urged the public to remain vigilant so as to avoid falling victim .

The National Public Relation Officer of Customs, Assistant Controller Abdullahi Mawaida made the statement during his press briefing in Abuja headquarters while expressing concern over the growing trend of criminals impersonating Custom officers using social media to deceive the public.

According to him ” We have observed a disturbing rise in fake account bearing the name and images of Custom General Of Customs, the National PRO and even retired Senior Officers , all falsely claiming to offer jobs and auctions opportunities ” he said. He emphasised that NCS does not conduct recruitment or auctions via social media, describing it as criminal act aimed at tarnishing the image of customs and defrauding innocent Nigerians . As part of the effort to combat the urgly trend, he hinted that NCS recently arrested a suspect, one Boniface Okoli over alleged recruitment scam.
Maiwada therefore urged Nigerians to verify all information related to recruitment and auctions through the Service official website .

In another development, The Federal Operation Unit FOU Zone C owerri Imo State, has intercepted a 40 Footer containerised donkey Skin billed for illegal export, the value of the content is said to worth N3.6 billion classified as dried salted donkey Skin, the prohibited items was discovered by the eagle eyed Custom operatives following a comprehensive examination of the container.

This was disclosed to the newsmen by the Controller of the Command, Controller BA Balogun while addressing the media in Owerri. The Controller commended the effort of the officers and men of the command for their commitment and unwavering dedication.
He further warned individuals and syndicates involved in the illegal trade of wildlife and restricted items to desist as the Service will continue to intensify surveillance, intelligence, and strategic enforcement operations across all zones.

The Controller General of Customs Wale Adeniyi had earlier congratulated the Controller and the Operatives reaffirming the service resolve to uphold national laws, protect endangered species and ensure that Nigeria is not used as hub for wildlife trafficking.
